The sets have been built, the costumes designed and, perhaps most importantly, the actors, singers and dancers are rehearsing their parts off-book. What does off-book mean? Simply that the performers are relying on memory and not scripts, all of which points to the months of effort coming to fruition and bursting onto the stage at the Starbright Theater some six weeks from now.
Tickets for the three performances – Friday, September 13; Saturday, September 14; and Sunday, September 15 matinee, are on sale now. Center row seats for the Saturday and Sunday performances are nearly sold out. I’ve got mine for the Saturday night performance. I’ll see you there!
As of press time, noon on Monday July 29, 64 tickets had been sold for the Friday night show, with 124 gone for Saturday night and 104 spoken for on Sunday. FYI, there is a total of 326 seats available for each performance.
According to Mountain Shadows Social Monitor Jean Mizzi, who started her shift minding the box office on Monday at 8 a.m., “I am so glad to see that there is a Friday night show because the tickets are selling like hot cakes!”

AARP TAX PROGRAM NEEDS YOUR HELP
AARP sponsors an important program in Sun City to prepare income tax returns for residents. The campaign is staffed by volunteers. Last year, more than 700 free returns were processed in Sun City. Each return is prepared by a trained counselor and reviewed by an experienced volunteer to assure a high standard of quality service. But AARP cannot accomplish this alone, and so the organization is looking for volunteers to help. If you have knowledge of income tax rules and computer skills, this friendly group would like to hear from you. All volunteers are required to attend a one-week tax course and pass a minimum proficiency exam. Volunteers must contribute at least four hours a week during tax season. All work is done at the Mountain Shadows Community Center on Thursdays and Fridays, starting in February and running through April 15. If you would like to volunteer, register online at www.aarpfoundation.org/volunteer before October 31. For more information, contact Mike Sanders at 702-724-0476 or [email protected].
NEED A RIDE? FDR IS HERE TO HELP
Sun City Summerlin residents are eligible to use RTC’s Flexible Demand Response Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hosted by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, FDR is a door-to-door transit service designed to help seniors get to where they need to go. Once residents are registered for the service, they may be accompanied by one guest, such as a caretaker, to help them conduct their business.
Rides cost .50 cents for each boarding. Passengers must have exact change. Transfers to other transportation services cannot be issued from an FDR vehicle. Registration is free and may be done by calling 702-228-7433 and pressing 8; 702-228-1834 (TDD).
Customer service representatives take reservations seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Passengers can schedule rides up to three days in advance and may be able to schedule same-day rides if service is available. It is the rider’s responsibility to schedule ride times. When making a reservation, pick-up times must be firm. If a passenger misses a ride during call center operating hours, he/she may call 702-228-7433 to attempt to reschedule the ride.
