NPT MEETING MOVES TO JULY 24

Team Members Prep for Smoke Alarm Installations
Picture
The Neighborhood Preparedness Team has pushed back the date of its monthly meeting, from tomorrow to next Wednesday, July 24, 9 a.m., Desert Vista. The meeting was rescheduled to better coincide with the Smoke Alarm Town Hall set for Thursday, July 25, 7 p.m., at Desert Vista. The purpose of the town hall will be to allow Las Vegas Fire & Rescue professionals and NPT team leaders to share the details of the smoke alarm replacement project, as well as some vital life-saving information. The Smoke Alarm project is focused on a concern for resident safety and provides a convenient way to bring homes up to the fire code minimum standards.

COMMUNITY THEATRE CLUB MEMBERS GO ON THE ROAD

By Bob Cohen/Link

It was the 1950s brought to life once again as the Sun City Community Theatre and friends brought the “American Bandstand Roadshow” to residents of the Destinations Pueblo senior apartments across Lake Mead Boulevard. The cast and crew consisted of 14 Sun City Community Theatre members, joined by five from the Sun City Dance Company and an equal number of family and friends.
Hosted by “American Bandstand” character Dick Clark (Mike Duvall), the cast performed 12 songs, ranging from Howard Shapiro’s renditions of “Everybody Loves Somebody” to “Dream Lover” and Debbi Lindermann’s version of “Teacher’s Pet” and “Crazy.” In addition, Wendie Garrido sang “How About You?” and Ken Korotkin performed “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do.”
Jo Mariani soloed “Will You Still Love Me?” before joining with Ken to sing a “Bushel and a Peck.” A song and dance version of “Pink Shoelaces” was performed by Ranie and Arch Darrow. And nothing was cuter than Lorraine Jones and 7-year-old AnnaBelle Skibicki’s presentation of “Lollipop.” Of course, in keeping with the “American Bandstand” tradition, the show had a commercial break during which Debbi sang the Sara Lee commercial.
Not to be missed was the hilarious production of “Yakety Yak” lip-synched  by the Duvall family, Audra (the director of the upcoming production of “Grease” at the Starbright Theatre); husband Mike; daughter Riley; and son John.
In addition, three dance routines were performed – The Glitz Girls (Sandy Bailey, Nadine Carter, Mariza Hein, Lorraine Jones, Linda Muench and AnnaBelle – danced to “Greased Lightning,” also from the upcoming production.
The Sun City Dance Company Rhythm Debs (Bette Anderson, Joelene Carter, Karen Harlan, Betty Johnson and Phyllis Whited) danced to the music of “Hanky Panky.” In the finale, the entire cast performed “Hand Jive,” while members circulated among the guests and brought the show to tableside.
The cast was supported by a crew consisting of soundman Bob Lindermann and runner Joanne Hess.
