Wednesday Talk to Address Upcoming Sewer & Manhole Maintenance
Last Thursday or Friday, many of us received an SCSCAI e-blast about upcoming work on our sewers. Since I spent much of this winter dodging construction cones on Thomas Ryan Boulevard and Button Willow Drive while the city was repaving some of our streets near the Pinnacle Community Center, I was concerned that they would be digging up streets that were just repaved. So, I called the Department of Public Works and spoke with Lorri Linnert (702-229-6738), and she told me there was a public meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, at the Starbright Theater. The meeting will start at 2 p.m. Lorri and the contractors will be there to answer any questions, and Lorri explained that, although there will be construction vehicles, all the work will be underground relining the sewers and/or pumping out the current facilities. The work is scheduled during the month of June.

Silvertones Send a Shout-out to Broadway!
On Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, May 4 and 5, one of our community singing groups, The Silvertones, performed their annual spring concert to packed houses at the Starbright Theatre. The show was called “Lullaby of Broadway.”
Music Director George Pucine and Accompanist Tim Cooper led the group of 58 residents in a 90-minute performance. Announcer Bob Moore introduced the program that led audiences through some of Broadway’s greatest and most recognizable hits.
The program featured 11 soloists, a duet featuring Marty and Suzanne Myers, and a chorus of six singers hissing “We Want Billy” from the show “Chicago.”
Everyone had a great time, and, as you can see from the photos, the costumes were dazzling.

Billiards Club Members Take on Sun City Aliante in Monday Tournament
Photos by Beth Nappe/Link
Sun City Summerlin Billiards Club President Gavin Lightner and several Club members welcomed the Sun City Aliante Billiards Club to a tournament on Monday, May 6, at Desert Vista.
“Their club is undergoing some renovation right now, so they don’t have a place to play right now,” said Lightner, explaining how both clubs get together every so often to challenge one anothers’ skills.
“It’s a game of friendly competition, plus when their club room is renovated, I’d sure like a chance to play their room,” Lightner said.
Monday's tournament was a double-round elimination with Ray (Summerlin) and Randy (blue shirt, Aliante) taking top honors in the 8-ball tourney.
Sun City’s Billiard Club members gather to play at noon every Monday, Wednesday and Friday when Lightner says about 12-20 guys meet to have a good time. If you’d like to play with the Club, give Lightner a call at 832-2767, or stop by when members are getting ready to rack ‘em up!
