Pickleball Tourney Raises $4K for Assistance League
Sun City’s Pickleball Club continues to gather steam in whatever effort it undertakes. Climbing membership, check; soaring competition, check; successful tournaments, check. The latter is especially true as the Club hosted its second tournament to benefit Operation School Bell, a program of the Assistance League of Las Vegas that helps outfit schoolchildren in need with clothing and educational supplies.
According to Club President Augie Costanzo, the tournament, which was held last month at Desert Vista, welcomed players from Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah and Wisconsin in competition that included Women’s Doubles (30 players); Men’s Doubles (26 players); and Mixed Doubles (48 players). In all, the tournament hosted 104 players and raised over $4,586. After expenses, the Club donated more than $4,000 to the Assistance League, double what it turned in last year.
Augie wishes to thank all the volunteers who put in countless hours to ensure the Club's tournaments go off without a hitch. "Without the volunteers, our success would not be possible," he said.
