Fun in the Sun at Desert Vista
Sun-loving residents turned out to celebrate the opening of Sun City’s outdoor pool season at Desert Vista on Saturday, April 13, with a free cookout presented by the Health & Fitness Department. SCSCAI Board member and Fitness Committee Chairman Jim Akers said, “Last year we celebrated the pools with an evening event, this year we’re mixing it up with a daytime cookout. We like to try new things.”
“The opening pool season cookout was a huge success,” said Health & Fitness Program Coordinator Jessie Miles. “About 80 residents showed up to celebrate the beautiful sunshine and their active community. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate. The Health and Fitness Department received positive feedback, and we’d like to give a shout-out to the Food & Beverage Department staff. Residents gave us suggestions about having more pool parties during the holidays over the summer.”
After enjoying their hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chips, beverages and music, some residents took to the water to work off their lunch, or just stay cool!
As the Health & Fitness Department debuts new events throughout the year, it would be great for residents who participate in the activities to share their experiences with the staff. Depending on the feedback, other events will be scheduled.

Mini-golf, Anyone?
SCSCAI’s Facilities and Maintenance Department has been hard at work prepping the mini-golf course at Mountain Shadows for the upcoming summer season. New carpeting has been installed to give the fairways a quicker surface that makes sinking a hole-in-one that much trickier. On any given day during a school holiday, visiting grandchildren can be seen showing off their skills. The nine-hole course is ideal for all ages, and all equipment is free to use and available for checkout at the Mountain Shadows Fitness Monitor station. Be prepared to show your Association ID card. The course is open daily.
Maintaining Sun City's Libraries
Did you know that Sun City has two libraries that stock a great selection of current books and magazines for residents? The libraries are located at Sun Shadows and Mountain Shadows community centers and are open the same hours as the buildings. There is no cost to check out books and residents may take as many titles as they like as long as they return them when they are done. While library volunteers are happy to accept current books and magazines, they ask that out-of-date titles be donated elsewhere as storage space is limited.
