A SALUTE TO SUN CITY'S VETERANS
WWII Tribute Kicks Off Residents' Forum Program
Sun City’s Residents’ Forum honored the community’s veterans during its annual Salute to Vets event on November 13 at Desert Vista. Volunteer organizer for the military-themed event, Jay Sesto, invited the Centennial High School Color Guard to get the evening started, followed by Mandy Breen, who sang a poignant rendition of America’s “National Anthem.”
Every year, the Residents’ Forum honors Sun City’s veterans with a program hosted by Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony who presents veterans in attendance with a certificate of gratitude for their service. This year, the Forum was open to doing things a little differently, and the Link Magazine was happy to be able to suggest an idea that covered several fronts:
Every year, the Residents’ Forum honors Sun City’s veterans with a program hosted by Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony who presents veterans in attendance with a certificate of gratitude for their service. This year, the Forum was open to doing things a little differently, and the Link Magazine was happy to be able to suggest an idea that covered several fronts:
- Sun City could join the rest of the world in honoring the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion.
- Residents could take a moment to pay homage to their neighbors who served in World War II. These veterans, between the ages of 94 to 100 years old, would be the special guests of the evening. They would be honored for their service and thanked for sharing their stories with the Link Magazine over the last two years. The stories of 16 WWII veterans were part of a special tribute issue published by the Link and included in the November issue of the magazine.
- All guests would be treated to a special talk by resident Navy veteran Bruce Adams.
- Every Sun City veteran would be honored for their service.
- Veterans and guests would be treated to apple pie and ice cream to enjoy with their neighbors and new friends.
