COVID-19 VACCINATION UPDATE
FROM MITZI MILLS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
February 8, 2021
We had a very good first week of giving vaccines and the Fire Department was able to oversee over 2,100 vaccinations at the Sun City Summerlin Vaccine Clinic. We were fortunate enough to receive additional vaccines each day, allowing us to vaccine volunteers who are giving their time to this clinic, front line staff who are in contact with residents on a daily basis, and bringing in people from the vaccine reservation list.
The good news is this week we will be receiving more vaccines and will be able to do even more vaccines than last week.
How many vaccines will we give this week? We have been allocated 2,400 vaccinations.
What days will the vaccines be given? Wednesday, February 10, Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12.
What age groups will be receiving the vaccine this week? Last week we did all the 78 years and older that had appointments and started on the 77 year old's when we found we had extra vaccines at the end of the day. This week (February 10 – 12) we will be vaccinating those who have signed up that are 66 and older, plus we will start on those who are 65 years of age. All people are being entered by age and those who are 65 and younger will be added to the next clinic, current clinics as there are cancellations or we receive extra doses of the vaccine. We do not have confirmation from the Fire Department if there will be an age cutoff for those under 62, and we will keep you posted on this.
How will I know if I have an appointment? You will receive your appointment date and time by email at the email address you provided on your survey/registration when requesting an appointment. If you did not provide an email address, you will receive a phone call from a staff member or volunteer. We call from many different numbers, so you do need to answer your phone even if you do not recognize the number if you are waiting for an appointment notification.
What if I do not receive a vaccine appointment notification? If you have not received notification by midnight tonight and you are 66 or older, you should send an email to [email protected] with your name, address, age, and membership number so they can retrieve your appointment and send it to you.
What if I receive an appointment notification, but I have already received my vaccine? If you have already received your vaccine somewhere else, or even here at Sun City Summerlin, please send an email as soon as you can to [email protected] so the appointment can be opened for someone else. Your attention to cancelling an appointment you do not need is greatly appreciated. Be sure and include your first and last name in the email, and it is also helpful if you include the date and time of the vaccine appointment you are cancelling.
Which vaccine will I be getting? With the shortage of vaccines in the State of Nevada we do not know which vaccine we are getting until the Fire Department arrives with it, and they do not know what they are getting until they show up at the dispensing facility that morning to pick it up. When you arrive for your vaccine there will be a sign out near the parking lot telling you which brand of vaccine you are getting, the brand you receive for your first shot will be the same brand you receive for the second.
How do I get on the “Wait List” to be called if there are extra vaccines at the end of the day? There is not a wait list and there never has been one. We go down the appointment list by age and start calling people who have not received an appointment yet. We do not leave messages and the person we call must be able to be present at Desert Vista within 10 to 15 minutes of the call. We call the person one time and then move on to the next person on the list. We call from multiple numbers.
Can I just show up and wait and see if there are vaccines available during and at the end of the day? No, you must have an appointment or have been called to come in. The list of those with appointments and those called to come in is at that intake table and if you are not on the list, you will not be let in. Also, you will not be allowed to just wait around the area.
If I get a phone call to come in for the vaccine and my spouse, partner or roommate does not, can they just come with me and receive the vaccine? No and please do not ask. You are being given an opportunity to receive the vaccine earlier than you would normally have been scheduled, if you do not want to get the vaccine ahead of your spouse, partner or roommate just decline the opportunity and we will move to the next person on the list. Also, begging and brow beating the person calling you or the volunteers at the intake tables will not change this and all you accomplish is slowing down the process for those in line behind you.
If I receive my first dose of the vaccine here at Sun City Summerlin where do I go for my second dose and how will I know when to come back? You will be given a card at checkout with the time and date of your second dose of the vaccine. The date of your second vaccine has been calculated by the medical professionals using the brand of vaccine you were given. Your second dose will be given here at Sun City Summerlin.
If I received my first dose somewhere else, can I get an appointment to get me second dose at Sun City Summerlin? No you cannot, you must receive your second dose from the same entity that gave you the first and at the location they are giving the second dose. Refer to the information you were given when you received your first dose.
Can I still make a reservation to receive the vaccine? Yes, just send the following information to [email protected]. Your first and last name. Your address. Your Sun City Summerlin Membership #. Your Phone #. The email address you want your appointment sent to. Your age.
