Saturday, December 9, was a jam-packed day in Sun City Summerlin. Fabulous weather had residents coming out and participating in:
- A Pickleball Club tournament at Desert Vista that benefitted the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots drive. The ladies kicked off the two-day tournament with tough competition, followed by men’s doubles in the afternoon and mixed doubles on Sunday. Club President Augie Costanzo said that “Toys for Tots will get around $4,200 from the tournament in the form of donations, donated registration fees and, of course, the toys, which are in addition to the money raised.” This marks the second Toys for Tots tournament for the Pickleball Club and the interest in both the sport and the club’s tournaments is growing. Augie said teams from Nevada, Arizona and California took part in the weekend event. But, it’s all about the volunteers, Augie said. “Without those ladies, we couldn’t get it all done. They’re here from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., making it all happen.”
- Just Sew Club’s holiday craft sale inside their studio at Mountain Shadows. Handmade items were just what the last-minute shopper needed to fill stockings and gifts under the tree. Club members were on hand during the event to answer questions about their crafts and to demonstrate the uses of many of the items from cooking accessories to one-of-a-kind sleeve cuffs and more.
- Hazardous Materials Drop-off at Mountain Shadows. According to Sun City Security Patrol, which works with the office of Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony to coordinate the annual event, more than 200 cars filed through the drive-through lines to turn in outdated electronics, leftover paint, various household chemicals and expired prescription medications.

Attracting the Next Generations to Sun City
How will Sun City Summerlin attract the next generations to our community? What will future residents look for when they consider moving to SCS? These questions inspired two current residents, Wendy Bowles and Dolly Mack, to develop an approach for finding out. They held three focus groups in October, interviewed several real estate professionals, and will be conducting an Electronic Focus Group online questionnaire in January 2018 for ALL residents to provide input. SCSCAI Board Member Barbara Holden and SCSCAI Executive Director Mitzi Mills are working closely with Dolly and Wendy. Watch for more information about this effort in the Link.
