Nevada Press Association Honors Link Magazine
Link staff members Jeannette Carrillo, managing editor, and Dianne Lowe, advertising coordinator, along with photographer and committee member Stu Gershon headed to Carson City, Nev., over the weekend to attend the 2017 Nevada Press Association Convention and Better Newspaper and Magazine Awards Banquet. The Link was among many of the statewide titles, including Luxury Las Vegas, Nevada magazine, RANGE, edible Reno-Tahoe, Elevate Magazine, Las Vegas Magazine and Vegas Legal Magazine that competed in the event. Link Advertising Coordinator Dianne Lowe took home first place in the contest for Best Print Ad.
The Nevada Press Association is the professional trade organization for news publications in the state. It was officially organized in 1924. The NPA is dedicated to protecting the First Amendment, supporting fellowship among publications and encouraging the elevation of journalistic standards and promoting the value of advertising.
“This award is very exciting for the magazine and for Sun City,” said Jeannette Carrillo, Link managing editor. The Link was honored to become a member of the NPA last year and to win a first-place award out of the box attests to the talent we have on staff. We are all very proud of Dianne.”
The Link is the official monthly magazine of Sun City Summerlin Community Association, Inc. In addition to featuring Association news, financial information and minutes from the Board of Directors’ meetings, the Link operates as a lifestyle publication featuring general-interest articles, club news and notes, department spotlights and more. The Link is 100 percent supported by advertising revenue, and no portion of resident dues are used to finance the publication.

We Asked for It and You Responded
The Link asked residents to register their thoughts on Sun City’s new community flag design and this is what you said. If you wish to tell us what you think, send your comments to [email protected].
“Karl, thank you so much for making it happen. Seeing those poles brightly dressed gives me a sense of pride and makes my heart happy. Jeannette, thank you for the great design. It is cheerful and uplifting. That flag thrills me every day. I pray it doesn't fade. I like bright.

I love seeing that color flying up there with the blue in the state flag and our U.S. flag. Makes me smile. I love the design and think we should adopt it for use on other logo type items. It is bright, cheerful and welcoming. Can’t say enough on the positive side.

Pinnacle Field Opens for the Season
Following roughly seven weeks of renovations, the Pinnacle field was rededicated on Friday, September 29, during a grand re-opening ceremony. Sun City’s Men’s Softball Club organized the event with a traditional first-pitch ceremony, a nod to the past, various exhibition innings and a festive barbecue sponsored by the club and CG&B Construction. Improvements to the Pinnacle field include a brand new synthetic infield, and expanded dugout areas with new benches and water fountains. Residents who turned out for the event said they were excited to see the new field, many commenting on how Sun City has added a new jewel to its long list of popular amenities. Following Friday’s event, the Men’s Softball Club opened its season with its first full practice on Monday, October 2.
