Coyote Season
Residents throughout Sun City are reporting seeing coyotes in the community. As such, SCSCAI reminds those walking their dogs during the early morning and dusk hours to practice safe behaviors – this includes keeping your dog on a leash at all times, carrying some sort of noise-making device that can be as simple as a few coins placed inside an aluminum can to scare away a coyote and never leaving your pet/s unattended in your front courtyard or backyard. According to The Nevada Department of Wildlife, coyotes don’t want anything to do with people, but they are attracted to small pets. Some simple rules for coexisting with coyotes include: Feed your pet/s indoors, don’t feed wildlife and always place a lid on your outdoor garbage cans. If you see a coyote near your yard, be sure to make lots of loud noise to scare the animal away. If you make it uncomfortable for the coyote it will move on.

The Sun City Summerlin Security Patrol celebrated its hard-working volunteers on Saturday, October 13, at Desert Vista during its annual 200 Club Dinner. The event, which this year touted a Western theme, recognizes volunteers who have completed 200 hours of service during the year. For the 2017-18 year, 153 volunteers were eligible for the ceremony, said Patrol Chief Darlene Vaturi, adding that currently the Patrol’s membership is 219. In the last year, those volunteers have logged a total of 88,714 service hours to Sun City.
In addition to the presentation of certificates commemorating the 200-hour milestone, the event honored longtime volunteers Sylvia and Walter LaMay for their 22 years each of active service to the Patrol. Security Patrol volunteers and their guests, along with members of Sun City Summerlin’s Board of Directors and Executive Director Mitzi Mills attended the event that was catered by SCSCAI’s Food & Beverage Department.

More Golf Cart Parking Planned for Mountain Shadows
Jeannette Carrillo/Link
The Landscape Department started work last week on a project that will add a dozen golf cart parking spaces to the Mountain Shadows Community Center. The spaces, which will be located next to the outdoor kitchen entrance on the west side of the building, will be carved out of existing landscape space. In order to make room for the added parking, landscape crew members began to prep the area by capping irrigation lines, removing bushes and relocating a palm tree. The cost of the project is reported to be $12,764, with an additional amount not to exceed $2,000 for various landscape work. SCSCAI reminds residents traveling in and around the west-side parking lot to be careful of workers and equipment in the area.
