Golfers Group Issues a Fundraising Challenge
Sun City resident Burt Karaalp and his Tuesday/Thursday golfing group is at it again. After watching the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Burt, who called on his group to support the fight against childhood hunger in May, delivered a new challenge to his buddies to help the Red Cross. “Watching the news today, the Red Cross can sure use the help,” said Burt, who collected $300 from his group of 25. “C’mon, Sun City golfers, we challenge you to join us in donating to the Red Cross. People in Houston and Florida need our help."

Fundraiser Runs Through September
Did you know that for $20 you can help feed a senior for a month? The Helping Hands of Vegas Valley Food Pantry is working with Three Square Food Bank throughout September to feed the 55,000 seniors in Clark County who report they go hungry every month. “Senior hunger is really a public health crisis in our nation and in Southern Nevada, where thousands of our friends and neighbors are impacted. These seniors need our help and should never be without nourishment. Let’s not let them go hungry,” said Dana Serrata, HHOVV executive director. Artists must be 18 years of age or older and must be qualified to work for the city; current city employees are not eligible to participate. Submissions for all projects are due Monday, September 25, at 11 a.m.

- Neonopolis parking garage entrance and exit ramp walls. Artists must submit a letter of interest and an original design proposal with a unifying theme of water. The selected artist will receive $20,000 for the project, including artist fees, paint, supplies, travel and documentation of artwork.
- AMP Utility Box Painting Program. Selected artists will be offered $2,500 to develop a proposal, present it to the Las Vegas Arts Commission and paint four utility boxes with original designs. To apply, artists must submit a letter of interest, resume/curriculum vitae and up to 10 images of past work designed to educate citizens about storm water pollution.
